The Civil War Trust is pleased to announce the creation of the American Battlefield Trust, a nonprofit umbrella organization that more accurately describes our role as the nation’s leading battlefield preservation group. The new organization will continue the work of the Civil War Trust in preserving America’s battlefields and bringing history to life. The American Battlefield Trust will serve as the overarching umbrella organization for the group, with the Civil War Trust continuing as its largest and best-known division. The Revolutionary War Trust will also be added as a division of the umbrella group.

If you decide to include the American Battlefield Trust in your will or estate plans, you can choose to designate your gift to go to a specific purpose, though we encourage donors to consider giving to where the need is greatest. Therefore, if you want to designate that your gift only go to preserving Civil War battlefields, you can do that. Please complete our Declaration of Intent form to indicate your designation.

If you have already included the Civil War Trust in your estate plans:

The good news is, you don’t need to do anything. The American Battlefield Trust is the same legal entity as the Civil War Trust (and has the same Federal Employer Identification Number), Therefore, if your estate documents designate either the Civil War Trust or Civil War Preservation Trust as the beneficiary, your gift should still reach us just as it would have before we created this new umbrella organization. However, if you update your estate documents in the future, please update the beneficiary to be the American Battlefield Trust and include our Federal Employer Identification Number: 54-1426643.
